I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, to a Jamaican mother and Nigerian father. My love for basketball started young, surrounded by family and community. I still remember being held up to the rim as a child so I could take my first shots. What started as something I simply loved eventually became the foundation for a journey that would take me across countries, classrooms, championship courts, and into spaces I never imagined.
My path to academic success was not always easy. During Grades 9 and 10, I struggled academically while trying to balance basketball, friendships, and the pressures of growing up. With the support of my mother, tutors, mentors, and a new environment, I learned that success isn't just about talent or luck. Success is about having the right systems, support, discipline, and willingness to ask for help. I finished high school with over a 3.5 GPA, earned an Ontario Scholar designation, and achieved the Division I scholarship I had dreamed about.
Playing Division I basketball at the University at Buffalo taught me discipline, accountability, and what it meant to perform at a high level. I experienced the joy of winning a championship, but I also faced some of the most difficult moments of my life during COVID. Being away from my family while my mother faced significant health challenges forced me to confront guilt, isolation, and my mental wellness. I learned one of the lessons that continues to guide me today: be where your feet are.
My journey continued at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sociology. Along the way, I learned that my worth could not live in a scoreboard, statistic, or outcome. I had to understand myself beyond performance. That realization helped me navigate depression and anxiety, seek support, and begin separating who I am from what I accomplish.
I eventually took my basketball career overseas, playing professionally in Europe while pursuing a Master's degree in International Business Management in Dublin, Ireland. Playing professional basketball in Finland to Ireland and Germany, I learned how to adapt, advocate for myself, navigate new environments, and embrace uncertainty. I also discovered a deep love for travel, visiting 15 countries so far, and learning that every culture, conversation, and unique encounter has the power to expand the way we see the world.
Travel has taught me that I don't want to be boxed in by someone else's perspective of who I am or what I am capable of becoming. I have learned to enter unfamiliar spaces with curiosity, listen before assuming, and allow every interaction to create a new understanding. I don't believe we have to fit into the expectations placed on us. We can expand, challenge, and change the narrative.
A serious knee injury during my professional career in Germany, which became another major turning point in my life. After years of giving everything to basketball, I had to confront the possibility that the game I loved might no longer be the place where I was meant to stay. Returning to Canada did not mean basketball and all of the things it has brought me have gone to waste, it was a redirection to use those skills in a new way. My experiences as an athlete, student, and young woman navigating mental wellness had prepared me for something I couldn't yet fully see.
Today, I bring together everything my journey has taught me through mental wellness, business consulting, basketball consulting, public speaking, and workshop facilitation. My education taught me to understand. Athletics taught me to perform. Travel taught me to remain curious. Adversity taught me to adapt. Community taught me to serve.
Now, I use those experiences to help people and organizations recognize their own capacity, challenge the narratives that limit them, and turn potential into purposeful action.
I am still becoming.
Still learning.
Still traveling.
Still building.
Still changing the narrative.
Still writing my story...
